“We couldn't believe our good fortune that just about everywhere we went, people said, 'Oh yeah, we'll buy plaques from you.”

About this conversation

Charlie, Geoff and Henry remember the beginnings of two foundries in Uralla - one working in bronze, the other in iron and steel.

In the early 1980s, Henry Raymond and Charlie Rudd were two of four who established the Phoenix Foundry in Uralla, and Geoff Swilks and his family established G&C Foundry at 'Shenandoah', 20 km west of Uralla. Henry, Charlie and Geoff remember the beginnings of the two foundries - one working in bronze, the other in iron and steel - and recount their growth and successes. They describe some of the equipment, systems and processes they have adopted over the years and how these have contributed to the foundries' success. They describe some of the projects they have been involved in, and finish by reflecting on the importance of the relationship between the two foundries over the years.
