About this conversation

Chris Eveleigh and Owen Croft discuss the early days of Landcare in the region and pay tribute to the contribution of Jon Taylor and the Harnham Landcare Group.

Owen Croft has lived in Salisbury, NSW, since 1956 and has historical knowledge of the vegetation in the area from the 1800s. Chris Eveleigh moved to land in Kentucky, NSW, in the mid 1970s, and has played an important role in the Kentucky land revegetation movement for over 30 years. They have both been involved in the Harnham Landcare group, and Chris has had a long-running business supplying trees for revegetation work. The two share their knowledge and experience of land revegation in the area. They discuss the reasons for land becoming bare and denuded, the beginnings of - and their involvement in - the revegetation movement and Landcare, and the successes and learnings that have come from nearly 30 years of tree planting. Owen contributes some historical information about planting, tree use and the landscape since the 1800s. Both acknowledge the pioneering role of Jonathan (Jon) Taylor in mass tree planting in New England.
