About this conversation

Henry (Chook) Carlon tells Les Forde how a Japanese clothing company decided his Talisker line was the one to buy at the wool sales.

Old friends, Henry ('Chook') and Les recollect what it was like growing up on the land in the Uralla area. Henry grew up on the Salisbury Plain while Les grew up at Kentucky; Henry became a grazier while Les became an orchardist, growing apples. They recollect: the struggle their families went through trying to eek out a living in the early years; the bush dances they attended; their dangerous antics riding motorbikes, and meeting their respective wives. Both also discuss their favourite sports and the sports clubs they belonged to. Henry talks about his time running the local old-time dances.
